“Reading is the foundation for lifelong learning, and the Reading Is Fun Program has been an invaluable partner in fostering a love of reading in our students.

By making books accessible and engaging, RIF helps build stronger readers, learners, and community members. We are proud to support this initiative and witness its profound impact on our scholars and families.”

JOSEPH R. DICAPRIO

Deputy Superintendent
Schenectady City School District

"With the longstanding partnership Reading Is Fun has had with the Schenectady City School District, it goes without saying that our children and families have benefited in countless ways beyond books.

RIF's ability to help transcend the power of literacy in unlocking not only skill, but also hope and optimism for a better future for all stakeholders truly shines outward as a part of all RIF does.

As a district, we value and appreciate the historical body of work we have established with RIF and look forward to seeing where our continued collective efforts will take us together in the future, in the name of literacy for all."

Schenectady Teachers On Value of The Reading Is Fun Program

The Reading Is Fun Program, Inc.

“In my previous role as a pre-kindergarten teacher, I have had the privilege of working with several dedicated volunteers from the Reading is Fun Program for over five years. This outstanding program provides young learners with invaluable opportunities to engage in literacy-rich activities that foster early literacy skills and cultivate a lifelong love of reading and learning. The relationships that students built with their Reading Is Fun volunteers had a lasting, positive impact on their growth and enthusiasm for literacy. Students frequently referenced the engaging content reinforced during their sessions, leading to measurable improvements in letter and sound identification, name writing, and reading stamina. I saw firsthand how the volunteers seamlessly integrated their efforts into my classroom's curriculum, aligning activities with our units of study. A memorable example was when a volunteer brought in a variety of leaves and books about trees to enhance our exploration of trees—adding a tangible, enriching element to the learning experience. Every volunteer I have worked with has become a beloved member of the classroom community, forming meaningful connections that students cherish. I am profoundly grateful for this partnership, which has made a remarkable impact on my students' academic and personal development. I enthusiastically recommend the Reading is Fun Program to my colleagues and encourage more teachers to take advantage of this exceptional resource each year.”
